Affiliations and Cooperation

The Academy is connected with other scientific organisations in many various ways and is linked by means of cooperative contracts. Its members are tenured professors at universities and scientific institutions such as the Max Planck Society and they combine their academic work with their activities at the Academy. Numerous events are held in cooperation with universities and other scientific institutions. The Academy’s departments are involved both at a national level and at a European level with cooperative projects and contribute to special programmes for advancing science, such as the Initiative for Excellence of the Federal Republic and the individual federal states, the Elite Network in Bavaria, and a Sonderforschungsbereich (Collaborative Research Centre). In addition, members of the scientific staff at the Academy give courses at universities as full-time or part-time lecturers.

The Academy fosters its foreign contacts by taking part in international cooperative projects, by maintaining links with its corresponding members, by visiting foreign academies and hosting visits from them. The Academy promotes these contacts by organising symposiums, colloquiums and conferences, as well as by delegating members to serve on international commissions.
