The work of the Commission is focused on processes of landform development and problems of environmental research such as anthropogenically induced processes of erosion and deposition in major landscapes of Central Europe. The Commission also works in the field of risk assessment of short-term mass movements. Moreover, it conducts research on etchplain formation in tropical and extratropical regions, on pediment formation of mountain forelands, on Plio-/Pleistocene broad terrace formation in the German low mountain range and on geomorphological approaches to Quaternary Ice Age research. The Commission is also concerned with the morphology of the planets Mars and Venus and thus makes a vital contribution to comparative planetary science. The Commission organizes annual conferences and field trips and is the editor of the series Relief Boden Paläoklima.
