The Mittellateinisches Wörterbuch (Medieval Latin Dictionary) is a joint enterprise published with the support of four German academies of sciences and humanities, the Austrian Academy of Sciences, and the Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Studies. It is the largest of the national dictionaries which, according to the plan of the Union Académique Internationale, are to be combined into a comprehensive dictionary of medieval Latin. It deals with all published Latin sources which originated in German-speaking lands between the 6th and the late 13th century.
The Commission also prepares the German, Austrian and Swiss source material for the international Novum Glossarium (Copenhagen, 1957-), advises other projects on lexicographical matters concerning medieval Latin, and provides linguistic and lexical information for use in editions and specialised research
