Commission for Modern German Literature
Edition of Adalbert Stifter
The Commission was set up in 1986. It cooperates with the Adalbert Stifter Institute in the province of Upper Austria on a historical and critical edition of the complete works, writings and letters of the author, painter and educationalist Adalbert Stifter (1805–1868).
As well as Stifter'‘s poetic works and his extensive correspondence, the edition also documents his many-sided contributions to politics and culture, literature, theatre and the fine arts and, not least, his writings on educational theory. Each volume contains a critical apparatus based on manuscripts and printed sources as well as a commentary.
