Wörterbuch der tibetischen Schriftsprache (Dictionary of Written Tibetan)

The Central and East Asian Studies Commission conducts research from a historical perspective into the languages and cultures of the peoples living in the regions covered by this Commission.

The central focus of its work is currently the compilation of the Wörterbuch der tibetischen Schriftsprache (Dictionary of Written Tibetan). It is designed to be a comprehensive work of reference; the words are documented by quotations from original texts, and the references are explained in a German translation. It includes in equal measure the most important genres of native literature, texts of the Bon religion, and Buddhist works that have been translated from Indian languages into Tibetan.

The collection of the vocabulary references has largely been completed. The work will cover several volumes. The first section was published in 2005, since then further volumes have appeared every six months.
