The Commission for Social and Economic History has been in charge of the Max Weber-Gesamtausgabe (MWG) (the edition of Max Weber's collected works) since 1976. It maintains the editorial staff, together with a special library and collection, which is used by scholars from all over the world. Max Weber's writings concerning the stock market and his sociology of domination were edited here.
The edition of the works of Max Weber (1864–1920) is the world’s first and most advanced historical critical edition of the works of a non-Marxist sociologist and scholar in cultural studies. It is being directed academically by an independent group of editors. The editorial work is being carried out at several decentralised locations in Germany. It is to include all the surviving writings, letters and lectures by the most important German social scientist of the 20th century. The major part of the 46 volumes planned for the project has been published since 1984.
