Publications

The Academy publishes the results of its research in numerous journals and monographs. The range of publications stretches from reference books, such as specialised dictionaries on the language of documents, biographical encyclopaedias, lists of antique vases, or German inscriptions from the Middle Ages and the Early Modern Age, through historical critical editions of the works of Orlando di Lasso and Johannes Kepler or the writings of Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph von Schelling, Adalbert Stifter and Max Weber, to the publication – with the help of the new media – of extremely up-to-date statistics from satellite geodesy and research into glaciers.

The Academy provides funding for the publication of outstanding doctoral and professorial dissertations ("Habilitationen"). The Historical Commission and the Commission for Bavarian History work on editions of records and documents, some of which are not readily accessible, and are in charge of other long-term projects, such as the Historical Atlas of Bavaria. Some commissions compile special scientific dictionaries documenting particular linguistic areas and cultures, for example the Thesaurus linguae Latinae for the entire ancient Latin culture, and the dictionaries of Old Occitan, written Tibetan, or Bavarian dialects.

The Academy's Yearbook and the quarterly journal Akademie Aktuell contain information about the projects and activities of the Academy and its commissions.
